Looking due east from Victoria Road bridge at Saltaire, West Yorkshire in January 1960 as a ‘Patriot’ class 4-6-0 No.45511 ‘Isle Of Man’ passes Salt’s Mill heading a Leeds-Carnforth train through a wintry landscape. At this time No.45511 was a Carnforth engine. It was built at Crewe Works for the London, Midland & Scottish Railway in 1932 as a replacement for the LNWR ‘Claughton’ No.2366, and eventually withdrawn from British Railways service and scrapped in 1961.
