Description

North Eastern Railway Stumpf valve conversion S-Class 4-6-0 No. 825 on Heaton engine shed.

First world war women worked in the yards mainly cleaning engines and keeping the place tidy. This engine was the only one which was converted for test purposes.
The gear was later removed during the 1920’s when the S class morphed into the more familiar B1 class.
