An intimate view from the tender of a Great Western Railway ‘Manor’ class 4-6-0 with the driver concentrating on the road ahead while his fireman is hard at work with the shovel.

The thirty strong ‘Manor’ class were introduced in 1938 and built at Swindon Works.

They were designed for passenger work on secondary lines and became particularly associated with the Cambrian section.
