Bulleid Battle of Britain class pacific locomotive number 34070 ‘Manston’ arrives from Dover with a boat train.
The locomotive was initially allocated to Ramsgate engine shed for duty on the main line services to London and on 31st May 1948 it had the distinction of working the inaugural Thanet Belle Pullman train between Ramsgate and Victoria. In common with the other Bulleid engines, it was given a conventional British Railways number, 34070. In November 1949 it was transferred to Stewarts Lane, London shed for work on services to Folkestone and Dover. Manston was also was used on the Night Ferry boat train service.
