Painting of Birmingham trams

I studied art at school in the early 1970's and since that time my artwork has mainly reflected my interests.
As I wanted to be a pilot my early paintings were all aircraft based, but as life and time moved on my interests moved on to motor cycles and then to cars and my artwork followed.
I joined Cleveland Police in 1978 and spent the next 31 years working in a variety of departments throughout my time. My painting continued but always as a hobby.
During my time with the Police I had several colleagues who owned interesting cars and this resulted in my first commission being gained in 1978, for a Jensen CV8. This was the start of what has been a become a lifelong passion and in the years since this first commission, my artwork has gone all-round the world and has covered many of the major marques, from modern to vintage.
In the early 2000's I was an Associate Member of the Guild of Motoring Artists.
In 2004 I realised a dream of driving a heritage tram and then went on to spend several years at both Crich Tramway Museum and more recently with the Blackpool Heritage Team as both conductor and driver, working on many magnificent vehicles. As a consequence I started painting tram-based scenes and tram ‘portraits’, which continues to this day.
This was also around the time that I moved from Acrylic to the watercolour medium.
With my interest in all things rail this inevitably led on to painting other rail based subjects, including diesel and steam locomotives.
In October 2019 I became an Associate Member of the Guild of Railway Artists.
